Where Soco Falls fits into a day

Soco Falls is on the Cherokee side of Soco Gap along US-19. It fits naturally into a drive between Maggie Valley and Cherokee, or a waterfall-and-overlook afternoon using the Parkway access at the gap. The short visit is the attraction; you do not need to turn it into a long hiking day.

Waterrock Knob makes a natural first-weekend pairing when the Parkway is open. On a Cherokee day, stop at the falls along the drive, then continue to the cultural or national-park attractions.

Parking: follow the newer signed entrance

From Maggie Valley, follow US-19 toward Cherokee, pass under the Parkway at Soco Gap and continue about a mile to the newer signed parking area on the left. From Cherokee, the new area is on the right before the old location.

Use the entrance and viewing route signed at the site. This is a compact waterfall stop to pair with a ridge drive or a Cherokee outing; keep the approach clear when waiting for a parking space.

Enjoy the double cascade from the viewing route

Take the established viewing route for the paired cascades and wear shoes with grip. Damp leaves, soil and rocks make this an uneven-ground stop even though the visit is short.

The viewing position is a good choice for a compact outing. The steeper descent toward the base demands more sure-footedness; groups with small children or limited mobility should plan around the established upper view.

A simple waterfall-and-view route

Leave Maggie Valley after lunch, visit the falls, then return toward Soco Gap for the Parkway turn. Drive to Waterrock Knob for the broad mountain view, choosing either the parking-area panorama or the uphill trail. Leave dinner for back in the valley.

This order avoids promising a waterfall visit, a major Cherokee attraction and a mountain hike all within a small afternoon. If clouds hide the ridgelines, enjoy the waterfall outing and save the overlook for another day.
